This is a mask/head/sculputure based on Karl Popper's theories on Psuedosciences or 'fake science'. He said that all proved and trusted sciences as we know them today were once thought to be fake sciences and so the scientfic community shouldn't disregard pseudoscience. I furthered Popper's idea and imagined scientific diagrams if pseudosciences related to the body were proved to be true.
I want to photograph them better very soon, maybe in some crayzee place

After buying some baseball cards off a tramp in new york last year, my fmp was based on baseball, I decided to look at the heroes of baseball and make a homage and 'shrine' to them. I created a map of the states of America, seeing as baseball is synonymous with the US of A and appropiated a baseball 'hall-of-famer' with the state from which they were born. some states do not have any baseball players in the hall of fame so these states give a bit of history and a few pointers for your game.
The piece is about two and half and metres wide and is painted on good ol' fashioned wood. hope u like!

p.s. before anyone counts, i didnt do washington D.C, cos it's too darn small and some consider it a district anyway- but other than that, they should all be there.

third year/first year collaboration

last week, a group of third years and first years illustration students collaborated on a full scale diarama on the theme 'the end is nigh'. the piece is a vessel holding the things we would want to take to the new world after the appocalypse. our vessel is a hot air balloon with all the things we want to take inside and strapped onto the oustide of it. me, kerry coulson, luke overin and lucy spence worked on the main hot air balloon basket and the bottom of the balloon- check the illusion out- it looks like its giong through the roof- how did they do it? i hear u ask! thus is the magic of illustration.

I asked them if they wanted to draw and i handed them my sketchbooks and pencils. here are the awesum results! the one on the left is me and the one on the right isn't. A project I've been working on recently is creating a 'pastport'. This is based on early British passports, which included details of your family history- i.e. the rib-pinging pun, 'pastport'. After talking to my Grandpa for a while, I found out that my great grandfather and his father owned their own tailoring business and so this gave me the idea to embellish, decorate and embroid onto a suit. Each part of the suit- jacket, trousers, waistcoat, tie and kerchief are based on individual members of my family. here are the results.

the artistic entrepreneur, that is Alex Missen, invited me to be a part of the online creative community - wolf. The site is a place where artists can swap ideas, show their work and discuss and debate the art world. I was only too happy to oblige when he asked me to post some work up so along with some of my final major project stuff, i sent he some drawings i did on a recent trip to new york.

here are some photos of my exhibition now showing at suffolk college in R block until Sat 20th June.
The piece is a 10 foot panoramic scape showing an imaginary geometric world inhabitated by little finger puppets and 'guards of the city'. My work centred around the notion of play and engaging the viewer. My work had velcro peices which you could move around, meaning the viewer completed the piece and entered the world and theory of play. I also produced glasses, with dangly wire house things, whereby the viewer became completely immersed and part of my piece. enjoy!

These are a better set of photographs. these are my robots out on location again, this time in the supermarket mainly. I am photographing my robot costume illustrations in places where people are subliminally or even physcially governed, where people are 'one of many' and where people lose their individuality, identity and status. I particularly like the shots taken from the CCTV footage because this enforces the idea of hierarchy and 'the nanny state' oppressing.. enjoy!!

here are some photos i took on location for my illustration project which is looking at hierarchy and how we are governed by the people higher up in class and status. I'm interested in how we don't have a choice in anything and are programmed, hence my use of robots. i really like the irony of my images being so playful, bright and childlike when in fact they are all about oppression and being dictated to.

These are my very first attempts at shooting my robots on location so don't expect anything amazing! enjoy!

oh yeah and yesterday me and a few more artistic rascals went to LONDON for a little trip. we went to the photographers gallery, which is off oxford street, next to where they filmed the mugging scene in kidulthood (fact) and saw the deutsche borse photogrpahy award. heres a bit off the website-

i want taryn simon to win- u should look her up- she photographs of whats hidden and inaccessible within the US such as nuclear waste sites, selective breeding zoos, hymen reconstruction surgeries. i also really liked tod papageorge, who documents manhattan's central park.

we then went to the london graphics centre and i could have spent thousands in there, but unfortunauely i dont have that much money so ispent a tenner! back of the net!!

we then went to the concrete hermit gallery, which was showing an exhibition of 'contemporary grotesque'- its an awesum gallery and exhibit and is well worth a look. theres a link for it on phil's 'the blog' blog- the blogs on my linked blogs column. bort a jon burgerman book which was gd and the man gave us all free magazines! rad!

#we also went to stolen space gallery and trolley gallery and topoloski gallery, but ive writeen enuf already so look at sumonelses blog!

my robot costumes

long time, no blog as the famous saying goes! here are my 3 robot costumes that are based and inspired on my robot model on the previous blog and paper cuts and 3d models of retro machines and personifying them. they took longer than i thought they would- basically all half term and to make them ive gone through countless glue sticks, 3 rolls of sellotape, a roll of the infamous malcolm moseley's double sided sticky tape and about 3o pounds worth on coloured card from the range!!

im stoked as to how theyve come out, it surprised me considering they are basically cardboard boxes covered with coloured card!! im now going to photograph them properly both in the studio and take them out on location i.e. at a bus stop, in a supermarket etc to capture them doing everyday, mundane things. they are a response to how people are manipulated by the 'nanny state' and how we are treated as machines and figures and data. they also are a comment on subliminal messages and consumerism and our obsession with order vs. chaos.

p.s. thanks to my mutter for modelling and coming up to my room every couple of hours so i cud photograph them in progress and see how they looked when on!
